Report Exposes Persecution of Middle East Christians as ‘Close to Genocide’

Organized persecution of Orthodox, Syriac and Roman Catholic Christians in their traditional Middle East homelands by Muslim extremistsd is starting to take on the appearance of a genocidal war and has triggere an exodus from Muslim nations in the past two decades,  a report commissioned by the British Foreign Secretary, Jeremy Hunt, warned Thursday.

Millions of Christians in the middle east have been driven from their homes, and many have been killed, kidnapped, imprisoned and discriminated against, including many women raped and kidnapped to be sold as sex slaves, the report compiled by the Bishop of Truro, the Right Rev Philip Mounstephen, found.

It also uncovered “shocking” evidence that in spite of appeasement of Islamic extremits by western government agencies, the persecution is worse today than ever with widespread discrimination against Christians across south-east Asia, sub-Saharan Africa and in east Asia – often driven by authoritarian Muslim tyrants and the traditional Islamic intolerance intolerance of religious diversity.

Its findings come after 359 people were killed and more than 500 wounded in attacks at hotels and churches in Sri Lanka on Easter Sunday.

“The inconvenient truth,” the interim   report concludes, is “that the overwhelming majority (80%) of persecuted religious believers are Christians”.
